The five village resorts of Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt make up the Grand Massif, which rises to an altitude of 2,500m. With 265km of pistes, this is the fourth largest ski-linked area in France, with an excellent snow record.
Surrounded by spectacular scenery, you are presented with a truly breathtaking view of Mont Blanc. The gondola from Samoëns village takes you to Samoëns 1600 in just 8 minutes, and from here you have access to 148 individual pistes. The ski area is varied and offers ski runs for all abilities with 14 black runs, 50 red runs, 64 blue runs and 20 green runs.
The Grand Massif has a wealth of challenges for the intermediate and expert skier and is famous for both the “Combe de Gers,” a vast playground where the wilderness is left untainted by development, and the “Cascades,” Europe’s longest blue run that meanders down the mountain for 14km. The valley is known for its beautiful landscapes, as well as the abundance and quality of snow, and offers a plethora of off-piste skiing and ski touring opportunities. Here you can explore entire powder bowls or ski endless technical tree runs. And beginners are well catered for at Samoëns 1600m – this plateau is one of the largest beginners areas in Europe.
The area is also great for snowboarders. With easy access to fresh powder and with a total of five snow and terrain parks, this area is very highly rated by boarders. Flaine, with its outdoor art gallery featuring original works by Picasso, Vasarey and Dubuffet, is also home to the renowned JamPark.
Cross Country Skiing is an increasingly popular sport and with more than 90km of cross-country trails, Samoëns is a major centre for the sport. Just a minute walk from the Villa you can access the valley route along the Giffre, a gentle terrain of forest, meadows and lakeside that stretches from Morillon to Sixt. In addition there is Fer à Cheval, a 10km circuit at 950m. Alternatively, Joux Plane at 1700m is snow guaranteed all winter and with seven circuits of different levels, it offers variety and stunning views.
